Bill & meter anomaly explainer
Explains why a bill changed, using meter readings, tariff slabs and reading type, and flags readings that need a site visit.
The problem
- High-bill complaints spike after estimated readings and tariff revisions.
- Call-centre staff cannot recompute slab-wise bills on the call.
- Faulty meters and data-entry errors are found months later.
What it does
- Recomputes the bill slab by slab and shows the working.
- Identifies the cause of the change (estimated reading catch-up, tariff change, seasonal load, penalty).
- Flags anomalies that need a meter check or site visit.
- Drafts a plain-language explanation for the consumer.
Pick a high-bill complaint and get the calculation explained and anomalies flagged.
Live demo: Bill & meter anomaly explainer
Synthetic data only · nothing you type is stored
Output
Slab-wise calculation, cause of the change, anomaly flags and a consumer explanation.
The demo first calls the Surge in-house AI server and falls back to a hosted open-source model if it is busy. The badge on the output shows which one answered. Limited to a few runs per visitor per day.
How it integrates
In your deployment the accelerator runs inside your environment, behind your single sign-on, and is connected to the systems below. You choose the hosting and the model.
Systems and APIs
- Meter data management (MDM) / AMI head-end
- Billing system
- Consumer portal and call-centre desktop
Data we need for a pilot
- Tariff orders and slab rules
- 24 months of reading history for a sample of consumers
- Complaint categories
Where it runs
- On-prem in the utility's data centre
- State data-centre hosting
Open-source models we start with
- Qwen3-class 14B instruct model
- IndicTrans2 for consumer explanations in the state language

Run the energy & utilities accelerator on your data
In a working session we map it to your process, systems and rules, and agree what a pilot must prove before it goes live.
